For this project, students were tasked with using SOUNDTRAP, an online digital audio workstation, to create a track in a Minor key. Students were given a broad range of requirements but largely were given creative freedom when producing these tracks. Most students chose to use a variety of pre-made midi and audio loops that they then arranged to create their song.

The playlist to here features the completed projects of the 8th grade band classes at SEMS. Given the current challenges of teaching and learning in the pandemic, using technology to create and share has been one of our most successful tools for continuing music education.

For the final part of the project, students presented their creations to the class during our regular live class meetings online.

I am extremely proud of the students creativity and effort that went in to producing these tracks. As with anything, the more we practice the more refined our skill sets become.

It is important to note that most (if not all) of these students have had no previous musical production experience.
